Unfortunately four years with control of the presidency and of both
houses of congress was not enough for Republicans to even attempt some
free-market reforms. The inevitable consequence is that Democrats will
win elections again and again, and the much needed reforms in the
health care system, the educational system, taxes, social security,
etc, etc...will go down in history as botched utopias that never saw
the light of day. Democrats were so saddened by Bush's victory in 2004,
but they can now rightly celebrate: the GOP has done nothing and
continues to do nothing. Yes we are fighting a war, and the weather has
been against us, but this was an opportunity that won't present itself
again for a very long time. If Republicans don't push the agenda for
more choice and opportunity, Democrats certainly won't. It's sad and
depressing, but it's the reality we are facing.
